FEMEST Editorial Policy

Last Updated: September 2026

1. Our Editorial Purpose

FEMEST is a global women’s magazine headquartered in London, creating and publishing stories that inform, inspire and represent women across cultures, industries and communities.

Our editorial coverage spans fashion, beauty, lifestyle, travel, wellness, business, careers, culture, society, relationships and the stories of women shaping the world around them.

Our editorial decisions are guided by relevance, quality, integrity and our commitment to creating a platform where diverse voices and experiences can be represented thoughtfully.

2. Editorial Independence

FEMEST maintains editorial independence across its publications and platforms.

Editorial decisions are made by the FEMEST editorial team based on editorial merit, audience relevance and the values of the publication. Advertisers, commercial partners, PR agencies, contributors and featured individuals do not automatically receive editorial control over FEMEST content.

Where content forms part of a commercial partnership, sponsorship or paid collaboration, it should be appropriately identified.

3. Accuracy and Fact-Checking

For independently researched editorial content, FEMEST aims to publish information that is accurate, responsible and appropriately researched. Writers and editors are expected to take reasonable steps to verify material facts and sources where appropriate.

Different standards apply to first-person interviews, Q&As and contributor-led content. In these formats, statements about an individual’s experiences, opinions, achievements, background or other personal matters may be published on the basis that they have been supplied directly by the interviewee or contributor.

Publication of such statements should not be interpreted as independent verification or endorsement by FEMEST unless expressly stated otherwise.

4. Interviews and Sources

FEMEST publishes interviews to provide individuals with a platform to share their own stories, experiences, opinions, professional journeys and perspectives.

For interview-led content, FEMEST primarily publishes information and language provided directly by the interviewee, whether through written responses, recorded conversations, questionnaires or other direct communications with FEMEST.

FEMEST may edit interview responses for grammar, spelling, length, structure, readability, house style and clarity. Such editing should not intentionally alter the substance or intended meaning of the interviewee’s response.

Statements made by an interviewee concerning their personal history, career, achievements, qualifications, businesses, experiences, opinions or other claims remain attributable to that interviewee. Unless expressly stated otherwise, publication by FEMEST does not mean that FEMEST has independently investigated, fact-checked, verified or endorsed every statement or claim made by the interviewee.

FEMEST nevertheless expects interviewees to provide information that is truthful and accurate to the best of their knowledge and to identify statements that require particular context or qualification.

Where FEMEST becomes aware of a potentially significant factual, legal or ethical concern, the editorial team may request supporting information, seek clarification, amend the content, postpone publication, decline publication or remove material after publication.

Quotes should accurately represent what an individual has communicated and should not intentionally be altered in a way that changes their meaning.

FEMEST may decline requests for complete editorial approval of an article. Where appropriate, factual information or quotations may be provided to an interviewee or representative for verification before publication.

5. Representation and Inclusivity

As a publication centred around women, FEMEST aims to represent women from different backgrounds, cultures, professions, generations and experiences.

Our editorial content should avoid unnecessary stereotypes, discriminatory language and representations that diminish individuals based on their identity or background.

We recognise that women’s experiences are not universal and aim to approach cultural and social subjects with context and sensitivity.

6. Contributors and Columnists

FEMEST works with staff writers, freelance journalists, guest contributors, experts and columnists.

Contributors are responsible for ensuring that material submitted to FEMEST is original, accurate and does not knowingly infringe another person’s intellectual property rights.

FEMEST reserves the right to edit submissions for accuracy, clarity, style, length, formatting, SEO and consistency with our editorial standards.

Acceptance of an idea, pitch or initial draft does not necessarily guarantee publication.

7. Artificial Intelligence

FEMEST recognises artificial intelligence as an evolving tool within modern publishing.

AI tools may be used to support activities such as research assistance, brainstorming, transcription, editing, SEO and content development. However, editorial responsibility remains with the human writer and/or editor responsible for the content.

Information generated using AI should not be treated as inherently factual and must be reviewed where accuracy is material.

FEMEST does not support knowingly presenting fabricated quotations, people, events or sources as genuine journalism.

8. Commercial and Sponsored Content

FEMEST works with brands, businesses, agencies and other commercial partners.

Paid partnerships, sponsored features, advertorials and other commercial arrangements should be distinguishable from independently commissioned editorial content where appropriate.

Payment for commercial content does not permit a partner to make false or misleading claims through FEMEST.

Editorial coverage should not be presented as an independent review where the nature of the commercial relationship would materially affect that representation.

9. Gifts, Products and Experiences

FEMEST editors, writers and contributors may occasionally receive products, invitations, travel, hospitality or experiences for editorial consideration.

Receiving a product, service or invitation does not automatically guarantee positive coverage or publication.

Where disclosure of such an arrangement is appropriate for transparency, FEMEST may include one.

10. Corrections and Updates

Despite reasonable editorial care, errors may occasionally occur.

Where FEMEST becomes aware of a significant factual error, we aim to review the matter and make an appropriate correction or update where necessary.

For interviews and contributor-led content, FEMEST may refer disputed statements back to the relevant interviewee or contributor for clarification because the information was supplied by that individual.

Articles may also be updated over time to reflect new information, changed circumstances or additional context.

Minor spelling, formatting, grammatical or stylistic amendments may be made without a formal correction notice.

11. Opinions

FEMEST publishes interviews, columns, commentary and personal perspectives.

Opinions expressed by individual contributors, interviewees or columnists do not necessarily represent the views of FEMEST, its editors, employees or associated organisations.

Opinion content should still comply with FEMEST’s wider standards relating to accuracy, legality and responsible publication.

12. Copyright and Originality

FEMEST respects intellectual property rights.

Writers and contributors should not submit plagiarised material or content that they do not have permission to provide for publication.

Images, photographs and other creative assets should be appropriately licensed, supplied with permission or otherwise legally available for publication.

Specific intellectual property and content-use requirements may also be governed by FEMEST’s Copyright and Intellectual Property Policy.

13. Sensitive Subjects

Stories involving subjects such as violence, abuse, discrimination, mental health, sexual health, grief or other potentially distressing experiences should be approached responsibly and with appropriate editorial consideration.

FEMEST may edit, decline or remove material where publication could create an unreasonable risk of harm, breach privacy or conflict with our editorial standards.

14. Editorial Discretion

Publication on FEMEST is ultimately subject to editorial discretion.

FEMEST reserves the right to edit, postpone, decline, update or remove content where reasonably necessary for editorial, legal, ethical, technical or reputational reasons.

15. Our Commitment

FEMEST believes women’s media should be ambitious, inclusive, curious and credible.

Our goal is not simply to publish stories about women, but to create space for women’s ideas, achievements, experiences, creativity and perspectives across the world.

As FEMEST continues to grow internationally, these principles will remain at the centre of how we commission, create and publish our editorial content.
