In Conversation with Elizabeth April

Elizabeth never planned to become a spiritual coach. She was just a sensitive child who felt everything deeply. For years, she believed that sensitivity was a weakness. Today, she helps millions see anxiety not as a flaw but as a message worth listening to.

Can you share a little about your journey and how you became a spiritual coach and thought leader?

I didn’t set out to become a spiritual coach. I was just a very sensitive kid who felt everything. I picked up on emotions in rooms, subtle shifts in people’s energy, and things I couldn’t logically explain. For a long time, I thought that sensitivity was a Problem.

As I got older, I realized it was actually a strength I just needed to learn how to manage it. When I began sharing my experiences openly, people seemed to resonate. I wasn’t trying to lead anyone. I was just telling the truth about what I was seeing and feeling. That honesty built trust, and the rest unfolded naturally.

What inspired you to write Your Anxiety Is Giving Me Anxiety?

I kept seeing so many intuitive, aware people believing they were broken. They were labeling themselves as “too much” or “too sensitive,” when in reality they were just overstimulated and overwhelmed.

The book came from a desire to reframe anxiety. I wanted people to see that sometimes anxiety isn’t dysfunction, it’s just information. It’s the nervous system and
the energetic body trying to communicate something important.

You describe anxiety as an energetic signal rather than a flaw. How did you discover this perspective?

I started noticing patterns. My anxiety would spike in chaotic environments or around certain people, and then disappear when I left. That told me it wasn’t Random.

When I began studying consciousness alongside nervous system regulation, it became clear that the body reacts to more than just thoughts. It reacts to energy, to environment, to perception. Anxiety often felt less like a disorder and more like feedback. We just need to learn how to listen to it in order to utilize it to its full Potential.

How can someone tell the difference between regular stress and the energetic imbalance you talk about?

Regular stress usually has a clear source, a deadline, a conflict, or a tangible problem to pinpoint. It makes sense in context.

Energetic imbalance feels different. It can show up suddenly, without a clear trigger. You might feel overwhelmed in certain spaces or around certain people, and then feel completely fine once you leave. That responsiveness is a clue that something energetic is at play. This elusive quality makes it extremely difficult to navigate, that’s why I felt the need to step in and help.

What are some simple practices people can use to align their energy and reduce Anxiety?

The most powerful practices are usually the simplest. Slowing your breath, especially lengthening your exhales, can calm the nervous system quickly. Putting your bare feet on the earth helps discharge excess energy. Turning off your phone and reducing input can make a dramatic difference for sensitive people. Often, anxiety isn’t asking for more tools. It’s asking for less stimulation.

In your experience, how does understanding anxiety as energy change someone’s daily life?

It removes shame. Instead of asking, “What’s wrong with me?” people start asking, “What is this trying to show me?” That shift changes decisions. People become more intentional about who they spend time with and how they structure their days. They stop fighting their sensitivity and start working with it.

Can you tell us about a breakthrough moment you had personally while exploring spiritual energy and consciousness?

There was a moment in meditation when I realized I wasn’t just reacting to reality, I was participating in it. I could feel how my energetic state shaped my perception. That changed everything. Anxiety stopped feeling like an enemy and started feeling like movement or energy asking to be understood.

You’ve spoken to millions online and on podcasts. How do you stay grounded while helping so many people?

Boundaries are everything. I don’t absorb every comment or every emotion that comes my way. I spend a lot of time offline, in nature and with family. Staying grounded isn’t about doing more, It’s about regulating consistently. I protect my energy so I can show up clearly.

Many of your followers are curious about spiritual awakening. How do you define it in simple terms?

Spiritual awakening is remembering who you are beyond conditioning. It’s realizing you are not just your thoughts, your trauma, or your roles. It’s less about becoming more spiritual and more about becoming more conscious.

Your work also touches on UFOs and consciousness. How do these topics connect with emotional healing and personal growth?

Exploring expanded ideas of reality stretches the mind. When your perspective expands, your identity softens. Emotional healing requires that same flexibility. When we realize reality is bigger than we were taught, we also realize we are bigger than our past.

When anxiety shows up for you personally, what techniques or rituals help you navigate it?

The first thing I do is not panic about it. I slow down and check in with my body. I ask whether I’m overstimulated or if I’ve overcommitted. Then I regulate. Breathwork, walking without my phone, cold water on my face, journaling. Usually, anxiety is either asking for rest or honesty. I try to listen before I react.

Looking ahead, what do you hope readers and followers take away from your teachings and books?

I hope they understand that they are not broken. Sensitivity is not weakness, it’s awareness without proper boundaries. If people walk away feeling less afraid of themselves and more curious about their inner world, that’s enough for me.
