Francis Hotel Bath

Inspired by Bath, Designed for Today

Francis Hotel Bath offers a wonderful introduction to one of England’s most beautiful historic cities. Set across seven interconnected Georgian townhouses on Queen Square, the boutique hotel combines heritage, thoughtful design and modern comfort in a setting that feels warm, welcoming and unmistakably Bath. Step inside and carefully restored architectural details sit alongside stylish contemporary interiors, creating spaces that invite guests to relax and feel at home.

Francis Hotel Bath doesn’t try to recreate the past. Instead, it celebrates it, allowing guests to enjoy the city’s heritage without giving up the comfort of a contemporary boutique stay.

The hotel has welcomed visitors since 1884, but it continues to evolve with care. A £14 million redesign, completed in November 2025, refreshed all seven townhouses while protecting the Georgian character that makes the building so special. Rather than replacing its history, the renovation highlighted it. Original architectural details were carefully restored, while bespoke furniture, curated artwork and rich fabrics introduced a fresh sense of style throughout the hotel.

The result is a hotel that feels elegant without being formal. Every space invites guests to slow down, settle in and enjoy Bath at their own pace.

Every Room Tells Its Own Story

One of the first things guests notice is that no two rooms are exactly alike.

Francis Hotel Bath embraces individuality, with each of its 98 rooms and suites designed to have its own character, making every stay feel a little more personal.  Regency-inspired shades of blue, green and cream create a calm setting, while patterned wallpapers, panelled details and original architectural features remind guests of the building’s remarkable history.

Whether you’re visiting for a weekend break or a longer stay, the rooms are designed to feel comfortable rather than complicated. They’re stylish, welcoming and thoughtfully put together, giving guests somewhere they can genuinely relax after a day spent exploring the city.

Among the hotel’s standout spaces is the John Wood Suite. Named after the architect who designed Queen Square and once lived in the building himself, the suite offers generous living space, an emperor bed, a sofa bed, a desk and views across the square. It is a fitting tribute to one of the figures who helped shape Bath’s architectural identity.

It’s this attention to detail, both in design and storytelling, that gives Francis Hotel Bath its distinctive personality.

Emberwood Brings Guests Together

Dining is an important part of the Francis Hotel Bath experience, and Emberwood brings guests together around modern British cooking inspired by the warmth of open-fire dining.

Built around open-fire cooking, the modern British brasserie creates an atmosphere that’s warm and welcoming from the moment guests arrive. Rather than chasing trends, the menu celebrates seasonal ingredients prepared with care under the guidance of Executive Chef David Hazell.

Signature dishes include coal-roasted Cornish scallops, wood-grilled monkfish and dry-aged côte de boeuf from Westcombe, each showcasing the restaurant’s focus on contemporary British cooking. Just a few months after opening, Emberwood earned a place in the Michelin Guide, a reflection of the quality and consistency found throughout the dining experience.

The experience extends beyond the menu. Guests can enjoy desserts served from the restaurant’s tableside dessert trolley or unwind with cocktails created in collaboration with Atelier Pip, adding another thoughtful touch to an already inviting setting.

Bath Right on Your Doorstep

One of the greatest pleasures of staying at Francis Hotel Bath is how easily the city unfolds around you.

Step outside onto Queen Square and many of Bath’s best-known landmarks are within walking distance. The Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, The Circus, Royal Crescent and Thermae Bath Spa are all close by, making it easy to explore without rushing from one place to the next.

The hotel also encourages guests to discover more of Bath through curated walking routes that highlight Georgian architecture, independent boutiques and heritage landmarks. Local partnerships offer even more opportunities to experience the city’s galleries and cultural attractions.

With so much just moments away, the hotel becomes more than somewhere to sleep. It becomes the perfect starting point for discovering Bath.

Looking ahead, Francis Hotel Bath is preparing to welcome The Francis Spa in 2026. Inspired by Bath’s long-standing wellness heritage, the new space will feature a private thermal sanctuary, three treatment rooms, bespoke massages, facials and skincare rituals using GAIA products.
